SHILLONG: The patrolling party of the BSF troops deployed at Gumaghat, South West Khasi Hills apprehended a Bangladeshi national identified as Sohyel Mohammad (14 yrs) while he was infiltrating into Indian territory. The apprehended person is a resident of Bangladesh’s Sunamganj district.
Following interrogation he revealed that he had crossed the international border through unfenced area to collect firewood. However, immediately after receiving information about his arrest, the BGB authority approached BSF and requested them to release the Bangladeshi national. In response, the BSF handed over the Bangladeshi national to BGB for taking necessary legal action as per their laws.
In another incident the troops of BSF deployed in Kuliang, East Jaintia Hills, apprehended another Bangladeshi national while he was trying to cross the international border. The apprehended person has been identified as Abdul Haque (69) of Sylhet, Bangladesh who has been working as a daily wage labourer in Rymbi Coal mine, Jaintia Hills for few months.
It was also revealed that few touts on both sides of the border were minting money by getting cheap labour from Bangladesh and exploiting unfenced areas of the Meghalaya for trans-border movement.
