Nongpoh: It is indeed a blessing for the people of 25 villages in border areas of Ri Bhoi district when the Executive Engineer, PWD Nongpoh Division informed the delegation of HANM central body women’s Wing that a road from 13 Mer Byrnihat-Killing-Umtyrnga will be constructed soon.
The HANM women’s wing, led by its president Bety Jyrwa accompanied by the headmen of the border areas and residents of border areas on Thursday, met the EE PWD Nongpoh Division, to get first hand information on the progress of their demands put forth to the government a couple of years back.
The EE PWD Nongpoh Division, Y. Laloo informed that the government had already approved the proposal work for the project at a cost of 4.5 crore and would cover a distance of 5 KM adding that tendering for allotment of works for the said project will be done from the Chief Engineers’ PWD office at Shillong.
It may be mentioned that, the HANM women’s wing way back during December 2015 had agitated against the government by staging a hunger strike in front of MUDA Complex, Nongpoh demanding repairing of the pathetic road from 13 Mer Byrnihat-killing to umtyrnga.  “We are very happy that the government had approved our demands for constructing a better road for the people here that include 25 villages along the 13 Mer-Byrnihat-Killing- Umtyrnga road”, HANM president Bety Jyrwa said. Further, she lauded the government, officers concerned and the people for their help and support in making their demands a success.
