Flood wreaks havoc in Arunachal

Itanagar: The flood situation remained grim in Arunachal Pradesh with several overflowing rivers submerging fresh areas in the state on Saturday.
The rising Noa-Dehing river has submerged entire Lekang circle under Namsai district and affected Piyong circle, Namsai Township and its adjoining villages, a report of the Water Resources Department said.
The water level of Jengthu River is also increasing rapidly and has affected Mukron, Chessing Nongtaw, Jenglai and Wagon-IV villages. The Lohit, Kamlang, Berreng and Tengapani rivers are overflowing and have resulted in heavy erosion in both banks of the rivers. The district administration has adopted all contingency plans to mitigate  the sufferings of the people, Namsai district DC R K Sharma said.
A report from East Siang district said that torrential rain has thrown life out of gear in many parts of Pasighat as heavy downpour in the past week has submerged different parts of the township.
Meanwhile, Tezu, the district headquarters remained cut off from the rest of the state as the administration suspended ferry services at Alubari ghat due to high spate of the Lohit river.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu has directed respective legislators of Tezu, Namsai and Jairampur to monitor the flood situation and supervise relief measures. (PTI)
