Illegal liquor worth Rs 1.8 lakh destroyed in Nongstoin

NONGSTOIN: Nongstoin Police on Tuesday destroyed a consignment of more than 54 cartons of seized liquor worth over Rs 1.8 lakh.
The illicit liquor was seized from a house during a raid conducted by police recently at Pyndenglawar. However, no one was arrested as there were no claimants to the seized liquor.
The liquor consignment had been brought from outside the district to be distributed to peddlers and bootleggers to sell in Nongstoin town.
Speaking to pressmen here on Tuesday, Officer in charge of Nongstoin PS, T.S. Mawdoh, said, “We received an anonymous input about illegal supply of liquor in Nongstoin in several vehicles. When we reached the spot along with additional police force we found nearly 54 cartons of liquor in a house at Pyndenglawar but no one claimed it.”
The police seized the liquor and later produced the consignment in the court which issued an order to the police on July 20 to destroy the liquor.
Mawdoh, meanwhile, informed that police will continue to keep an eye on illegal liquor trade and will arrest anyone found involved in illegal supply of liquor. He further asserted that police will continue its operation to eradicate the menace of illegal liquor in West Khasi Hills.
