Coal mining prohibition

Shillong: The Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat in a press release, has informed that mining and transportation of coal within or outside the District is strictly prohibited in continuance of the Order passed under Section 144 CrPC, dated May 16, 2016 and in pursuance of the National Green Tribunal Order, dated April 17, 2016. Dumping of coal along the National Highway-44 and PWD road is also prohibited.
Further, the DC prohibits assembly of persons or groups of people and carrying of arms and lethal weapons. The release also states that order comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders and violators will be dealt with strict action.
