TGCSU serves 7 days ultimatum to Govt to fulfill demands

TURA: The Tura Government College Students’ Union (TGCSU) has served an ultimatum of 7 days to the State Government to fulfill its long pending demands with regard to the college and warned of holding agitational programmes within the district if it continues to be ignored.
In a statement issued by the TGCSU said that they have demanded the upgradation of the college infrastructure, memorandums of which have also been submitted to the Education Department and the Government on a number of occasions.
However, the government has continued to turn deaf ear to the union’s plea to this day.
Some of the demands of the TGCSU include the appointment of a full-fledged Principal and Vice Principal, appointment of lecturers in vacant posts, creation of posts for Ministerial Staff both for the college and hostel and the creation of post for a college librarian.
The student body also demanded a permanent water tank, construction of Science and Geography Labs, toilet, a gallery for the College Field at Te’teng A’ja, Lecturers’ common room and an indoor sports stadium besides the installation of projectors for each classroom.
The union has also sought a replacement for the old college bus, the speeding up of the process for the release of the post matric scholarship for the session 2012-13 and 2014-15, disbursement of salary for morning shift lecturers, stocking of new books in the college library as per syllabus including the introduction of new subjects in the college like Sociology, Anthropology, Statistics, BA in Mass Communication and BA in Music.
