Five injured as night bus overturns

JOWAI: Five people were injured when a night bus they were travelling in capsized as the driver tried to avoid an over-speeding truck from the opposite direction on NH-44 at 3.30 am on Wednesday. The night bus (AS 10 C 4187) was proceeding towards Guwahati from Karimganj in Assam. The injured were shifted to the nearest hospital at Ialong in West Jaintia Hills.
In another incident, a truck (NL01K 9592) hit a Maruti van (ML04B-1797) at Khliehtyrshi near FCI Godown. No one was hurt in the incident.
Meanwhile, on Monday morning, a tourist taxi plying from Jowai to Shillong was hit by an army truck at Ladsmit. The mother of this correspondent, Nosting Siangshai, and his brother beside other passengers were hurt in the incident.  Siangshai was first rushed to Civil Hospital Shillong, however, since the X-ray machine of the hospital was out of order, she had to be rushed to Nazareth Hospital in the city.
