Ampati: 11 beneficiaries were on Friday presented cheques of Rs 15,000 each under Chief Minister’s Wedding Assistance Scheme for Orphan Girls during a function organized by the South West Garo Hills Social Welfare department in Ampati.
The scheme was launched by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma in 2014 under which poor orphan girls of marriageable age are entitled to get the benefit of the scheme to enable them to have a decent wedding and start a family. The scheme is being implemented by the Social Welfare department in all district offices in the State.
The beneficiaries collected the cheques, accompanied by their prospective grooms, from Deputy Commissioner C.V.D. Diengdoh.
Director of Recruitment, Indian Army, Col. A.K. Sinha and Superintendent of Police Ramesh Singh were also present on the occasion.
The deputy commissioner, later, advised the couples to visit the DC’s Office to register their marriage under the compulsory Registration of Marriages Act, 2012.
