SHILLONG: Opposition Leader Donkupar Roy said on Monday that he was not happy with the short sessions of the State Assembly.
Roy’s remark comes only three days before the autumn session of the Assembly begins on September 9. The session will continue till September 16 and it has only five working days. “The session is short because the Government has no business,” said Roy.
The leader said this time, many MLAs may stay away from debates and discussions in the House. “Earlier, MLAs from both the ruling and opposition parties would participate in debates but this time, MLAs are not participating,” he said.
Roy said if all the MLAs participate in debates, the Assembly would need a much longer session. Opposition leaders under the Meghalaya People’s Front have already expressed reservation against the short duration of the Assembly session saying it should have been longer since many important issues pertaining to the State needed to be discussed.
