PM to review progress of Swachh Bharat Mission

New Delhi: As Swachh Bharat Mission is completing its two years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will review the progress of the SBM across the country.
The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS) along with the active support of Urban Development Ministry is organising a one-day conference INDOSAN (India Sanitation), to review the implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission nationally.
The conference is scheduled on September 30, and will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to a letter send to the states by the MDWS.
The ministry has also invited chief ministers, ministers and principal secretaries in charge of SBM in the states along with collectors and panchayat representatives.
“INDOSAN is envisaged as an annual national event to bring together all stakeholders    working in sanitation-government, NGOs, academicians, researchers, partner agencies and corporates on one platform for shared vision,” it added.
The letter also says there will be deliberations on a roadmap highlighting actions, interventions and milestones towards achieving the national goals of elimination of open defecation and initiation of solid & liquid waste management activities in every town of the country by 2019.
The SBM was officially launched on October 2, 2014 by Modi himslef. It aims universal sanitation and open defecation eradication by 2019, on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
It is coordinated by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS) with two Sub-Missions, the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) and the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).
Modi had also nominated 27 prominent personalities from various walks of life for promoting his pet programme. The list includes Amitabh Bachchan, Ramdev and Sachin Tendulkar among others. (PTI)
