Three militants arrested in Assam

Guwahati: Three militants , two belonging to an Adivasi tribe outfit and other from the NDFB(S) terror group were arrested by Army and Assam police in two separate joint operations carried out on Thursday.
The Army engaged in counter-insurgency operation in Assam arrested the self-styled deputy commander-in-chief of an Adivasi tribe militant outfit along with another cadre from Hatkota in East Karbi Anglong district.
A defence spokesman here informed that acting on a tip-off from Army intelligence unit, troops of the Red Horn Division carried out operations in Hatoka in East Karbi Anglong district of Assam along with police. The swift and surgically executed operation led to the apprehension of Binod Gowla who is the self-styled deputy C-in-C and one cadre of National Socialist Council of Adivasi (NSCA). One 7.65 mm pistol, grenade and ammunition were recovered from the duo who had been carrying out extortion and unlawful activities. The NSCA is one of the fringe outfits which has been harassing locals and is involved in extortion.
In another operation carried out in the wee hours today on the basis of intelligence inputs on presence of NDFB(S) terrorists in West Daisamguri in Chirang district, a joint team of the Army and Assam Police operation apprehended a terrorist of NDFB(S) outfit, Hwbtasad Brahma alias Darga alias Jathi (aged 20) along with one pistol and ammunition. Individual was allegedly carrying out extortion on behalf of NDFB(S) and providing details of potential extortion targets to senior leaders of the group based in Myanmar.
He has also been involved in providing weapons and ammunition to terrorists of NDFB(S).
