NONGPOH: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Northern Region, has protested against the Assam Rifles for its intention to acquire land at Lawbyrwa in Ri Bhoi district.
Marcus Marten, president of the unit, said, “The local residents of Umroi area had from time to time experienced difficulties and atrocities by the Assam Rifles. They should instead acquire land in the border areas.”
Marten said the group would intensify its protest if the Assam Rifles goes ahead with land acquisition at Lawbyrwa, which is in the heart of Ri Bhoi district.
Marten also informed that organization had submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, CP Gotmare, in this regard.
