TURA: The All Garo Hills Primary School Teachers’ Association (AGHPSTA) has set October 1 deadline for the State Government to fulfil its demands, including regularisation of teachers appointed in 1995, and threatened to agitate if it failed to do so.
The teachers are demanding that those appointed by the Deputy Inspector of Schools in 1995 and later categorised as non-government teachers in 1997 should be counted as government teachers. The AGHPSTA also demanded that the teachers should be regularised as per the order of July 26, 2006, issued in Shillong.
“Government employees  are usually regularised after serving for five to six years. But these teachers have been serving for more than 21 years and have not been regularised despite a number of requests and memoranda submitted by our association,” the teachers’ body said.
The association is also demanding that ACPS is made entitled to all lower primary school teachers after regularisation besides exempting them from electoral duty and population registration surveys.
Recalling the recent transfer of 16 LP School teachers near the completion of the current academic session, the association pointed out that such a move would adversely affect the future of students and urged the authority concerned to revoke their transfer orders.
