SHILLONG: The United Peace and Developmental Forum, Tikrikilla, has raised several issues concerning the people of Garo Hills including crime against women during a meeting held recently.
The meeting felt that many people belonging to other communities, including migrant labourers, enter remote villages and commit crime against Garo people which need to be stopped.
The meeting observed that many cases pertaining to women, including elopement, molestation and rape, and other crimes violating the customary usages and traditional practices of indigenous people are of concern.
It was decided in the meeting that those people who enter the area should provide valid documents to the village headman or VDP members.
Concerned over the dilapidated road condition in areas around Tikrikilla, the meeting recalled that recently a delegation of headmen and GSU unit of Tikrikilla met PWD (Roads) Minister Martin M Danggo, Chief Engineer of PWD Roads and Additional Chief Engineer of PMGSY, Shillong, in their respective offices and apprised them about the condition of rural roads of Tikrikilla Raksamgre regions for necessary action.
Meanwhile, the GSU president of Tikrikilla, Walseng N Sangma, has urged the people to work hard for the overall development of Garo Hills.
