TURA: A solidarity forum, a conglomeration of several bodies based in Garo Hills, is preparing for the 11th Martyrs’ Day Memorial Service on September 30 in memory of those killed in police firing in 2005.
The September 30 Victims’ Solidarity Forum – comprising organisations like the GSU, AYWO, ADE, FKJGP-Garo Hills zone, FAF, TGCSU, PGSU, DBC-SWA and other civil societies and students’ bodies – held a meeting recently at ADE office in Tura.
Nine people were killed during a protest against the alleged bifurcation of the MBOSE in Tura when police opened fire to disperse the mob on September 30, 2005.
The programme in Tura will be held at the cenotaph erected at Chandmary Playground at 4.30pm and a similar memorial will take place at Rongrenggre School Playground in Williamnagar, where five persons fell to police guns.
Adinson Ch Momin, general secretary of the Forum, has made an appeal to everyone to attend the programme.
