SHILLONG: A Border Security Force jawan at Dawki slapped a local youth from Darrang for “admiring the scenic view of the Indo-Bangla border”.
Speaking to reporters, Kyrshanlang Ryngksai said the BSF guard started questioning him when he was admiring the view of the border. The boy assured the guard that he had no intention of crossing over to Bangladesh. “I told him that I am a student and not a smuggler. Out of the blue, he slapped me and tried to pick up a stick to beat me. But I remained calm and he did not harm me,” he added.
He alleged that BSF guards remain mute spectators when Bangladeshis try to cross the border.
“However, even if we Indians stand on our side of the border, the guards will blow their whistles signaling us to not cross over,” he said.
Kmen Myrchiang, secretary of Coordination Committee on International Border (CCIB) said, “He was looking towards the land which was once a playground and was saddened at the turn of events. After the land has been marked by the  Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills, it was conceded to Bangladesh.”
When contacted, the BSF PRO said he would require the details of the incident so that necessary action can be taken against the erring BSF.
