SHILLONG: PWD minister Martin M Danggo along with the officials from the Public Works Department, inspected the construction work of Shillong-NongstoinTura road from Rangskhen in East Khasi Hills till Williamnagar in East Garo Hills.Danggo, who recently took charge of PWD (Roads), took the initiative to inspect the progress of the 264.3 km road since it is deemed to connect Khasi and Garo Hills regions. The minister expressed satisfaction over the progress of the road inspite of many hurdles the construction company had to face. The minister said 90 per cent of ) the work has been completed and the remaining portion, which falls in East Khasi Hills region, is being delayed due to the pending work on the bypass from Sohiong to Lad Mawreng. The new Land Acquisition Act has delayed the land acquisition process, he said. Danggo, however, asserted that the remaining portion will be completed before March 2017. The original sanction for the construction of 264.3 km road was Rs 1494 core and after the revised estimate, the total cost is now estimated at Rs 2023 crore. The work is being executed by the Hyderabad-based BSC-C&C JV. The work started in 2011 and the target date fixed for completion was March 2014.
