Villagers nab rape accused

TURA: A cattle herder from neighbouring Assam engaged for work in Bajengdoba area of North Garo Hills has been apprehended for allegedly raping a disabled teenage girl.
The 35-year-old accused who hails from Sonari village of Goalpara district worked as a part time cattle tender. He took advantage of the victim who was specially challenged and allegedly committed the crime on October 14.
He is alleged to have raped the 17-year-old girl at Chengalma village of Bajengdoba and made a second attempt on Wednesday when the villagers caught him after the victim raised an alarm.
He has since been handed over to North Garo Hills police.
