TURA: The wife of ASAK chief Reding T. Sangma, whose men kidnapped nine small-time traders from Assam last Friday, has reportedly spilled the beans about the outfit’s modus operandi.
Fernia N Sangma alias Boti, who was arrested on Saturday, told South Garo Hills police that she would procure SIM cards from both India and Bangladesh and help in recruiting new cadres.
The outfit has around 10 members, of which around seven are senior cadres who defected from GNLA, police said quoting Fernia.
The ASAK rebels kidnapped the traders from near Dumnikura in South Garo Hills. Around two months ago, they had abducted nine traders from Assam who later managed to escape the rebels’ den.
The police have also recovered Rs. 2.30 lakh from Fernia’s house at Mindikgre, 20 km from Baghmara town. She said the money was meant for procuring weapons from Bangladesh through a middleman in India. A satellite phone was also seized.
“We have registered a case against her and she is in police custody. She has revealed a lot of information about the organisation and the people working for it. More arrests will soon follow,” said SP Anand Mishra.
Fernia also told that Reding was planning to surrender soon but police said such claims were made in the past too but the ASAK chief did not give up arms.
