SHILLONG: The State authorities are doing their bit to ensure the problem of currency shortage is addressed and notes are made sufficiently available to the distressed people.
Chief Secretary K.S Kropha on Sunday said the Additional Chief Secretary had had a meeting with RBI and bank officials to make all arrangements.
In East Khasi Hills, there have been allegations of traders trying to take advantage of the current situation by making illogical demands asking consumers to purchase commodities amounting to a thousand rupees or more. Refusal to accept Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes only aggravated the problem.
Meanwhile, West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Arun Kumar Kembhavi has allayed fears of shortage of Rs 100 notes and stated that it is only an artificial shortage. He observed that people’s refusal to part with the Rs 100 notes, which are high in demand after demonetization, has created a temporary shortage.
“We have issued orders to traders not to sell more than the MRP or indulge in black marketing or hoarding,” he said.
