TURA: A senior citizen was allegedly not allowed to enter the main branch of State Bank of India in Tura recently despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to all banks to provide separate counters for the elderly.
The president of the Tura Garo Senior Citizens’ Forum (TGSCF), W.G Momin, was reportedly denied entry into the bank when he went to meet the branch manager on November 14. Momin wanted to discuss the problems faced by hundreds of people during money transactions.
“If senior citizens are driven out of banks, how are we supposed to go about money transactions?”
It is almost impossible for the elderly to stand in a queue throughout the day and then return empty handed,” Momin said.
Momin had proposed that one bank employee should be tasked with looking after the grievances of senior citizens and a separate counter should be opened for the elderly.
