ULFA claims responsibility for attack on convoy in Tinsukia

Guwahati: Myanmar-based Northeast insurgent groups including the proscribed United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) on Sunday claimed responsibility for killing of three Army jawans in the attack carried out on an army convoy at Pengeri in Tinsukia district on Saturday morning that left three army jawans dead and four injured.
The attack was carried out by the ULFA(I) jointly with its Myanmar-based allies in recently formed National Liberation Movement of Western South East Asia, a banner organization of Myanmar based Northeast militants groups.
In a statement jointly signed by ULFA(I) self-styled c-in-c Paresh (Asom) Barua and emailed to the media here, claimed , “ In pursuance of common cause of liberation and to enhance the progress for the National Liberation Movement of WESEA, Coordination Committee (CorCom) of People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive), Revolutionary People’s Front and United National Liberation Front and United Liberation Front of Asom [ULFA-Independent], a constituent member of United National Liberation Front of WESEA (UNLFW), undertook a joint military operation: BARAK against the common enemy India.”
It further stated, “Under this operation BARAK, a joint team attacked the 15 Kumaon Regiment of Indian Army at Burhi Dihing, Tinsukia, Assam on November 16. In this attack, the joint team killed three soldiers and injured four and snatched two weapons – one AK Rifle and one INSAS Rifle.”
Meanwhile, the DG of Assam Police Mukesh Sahay chaired a joint meeting of the Army, police and paramilitary forces to review the security scenario and dimensions of counter-insurgency in the wake of Saturday’s attack on Army vehicles at Pengeri.
