SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya on Tuesday cancelled the bail of a person who, along with two minors, raped a minor girl in Nongthymmai in June this year.
The bail to the accused was earlier granted by the Special Judge, Shillong, dealing with cases under the POCSO Act with no objection from the public prosecutor.       On June 2, the eight-year-old girl was gang raped by the trio and all of them got bail separately.
After the main accused, Bhanban Jamatia, obtained bail, the father of the victim represented by his counsel K. Paul filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging the order of the Special Judge (POCSO).
Though a notice was issued, Jamatia did not appear before the court.
After hearing the case on Tuesday, Justice VP Vaish cancelled the bail granted to Jamatia.
Sources said the father of the victim will also challenge the bail granted to the two other accused who are minors.
