SHILLONG: The traffic in charge of Sadar police station, PM Syiem who was arrested on Thursday has been suspended from the services following allegations of sexual assault against him. This was informed by East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang.
It may be mentioned that an FIR accusing the cop of assaulting a girl was filed at Laban police station on Tuesday night.
Police said that though there was a request for withdrawal of the FIR from the complainant, the accused was arrested as it was a cognizable offence.
The accused was produced before a local court and forwarded to 14-days judicial custody on Thursday.
The accused has been booked under Section 376 (Rape), 323 (Causing Hurt), 292 (a) (Sells, lets to hire, distributes, publicly exhibits or in any manner puts into circulation, or for purposes of sale, hire, distribution, public exhibition or circulation, makes, produces or has in his possession any obscene book, pamphlet, paper, drawing, painting, representation or figure or any other obscene object whatsoever) and Section 506 of IPC (criminal intimidation).
