SHILLONG: Congress senior leader Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday questioned the demonetisation move saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi is burning down his own house.
The statement comes days after the state BJP leadership blamed lack of awareness on demonetisation for its poor District Council by-poll show.
“If they (BJP) say it is because of demonetisation then it only means that they are burning their own house or is it Modi who wants to burn his own house,” said Tynsong, who is also       the Minister in-charge of the District Council Affairs.
Criticising the BJP for its tall claims that it would replace the Congress in the 2018 assembly elections, the Minister said, “You need to know only one thing, be it an individual or politician – action speaks louder than words. It seems our friends from BJP only talk big but work less.”
He added that the mandate is with the people and not with BJP or other parties “and it is the electors who would decide the future of governance in Meghalaya”.
Tynsong was sarcastic when asked about Congress members joining BJP. “Those who join the saffron brigade are thinking that the rooms (in the Congress) are full but in fact we still got so many rooms to accommodate. It seems they wanted to be in the kitchen room only,” he said.
