TURA: Former editor and publisher of Garo weekly ‘Adil’, Balseng Arengh, passed away in Williamnagar after suffering a stroke late on Monday night. He was 45.
Arengh studied science at Sankardev College in Shillong and graduated from Tura Government College. He got involved in journalism during his college days and later became a member of the then Garo weekly newspaper ‘A’chik Mikasal’, which was edited by Late Mathew Reip Marak.
Arengh later ventured independently and started his own weekly ‘Adil’ that was published from Tura. Despite financial constraints and manpower crisis Arengh singlehandedly ran the paper successfully for many months.
He later joined the state government service as sectional assistant in the PWD, Songsak, and was promoted as junior engineer, a post he held at the time of his demise.
The media fraternity in Garo Hills, led by The Shillong Times and Salantini Janera, has condoled Arengh’s death. He is survived by his wife and three children.
