NEC member no more

SHILLONG: Professor Gangmumei Kamei, who was a member of the North Eastern Council under the Ministry of DoNER, and former Manipur Minister, passed away on Thursday in Imphal. He was 77.
A condolence meeting in honour of late Prof. Kamei was held at the NEC Secretariat.
Professor Kamei was born in Imphal on October 21, 1939. He was a historian and a writer and held the post of Professor of History in Manipur University.
Kamei was the founder of the Federal Party of Manipur formed in 1993. He held the post of MLA in 1995 and 2001 and was the minister of forest, environment and higher education during the W. Nipamacha Singh government. Kamei joined BJP in 2012.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and others condoled his death.
