SHILLONG: The State BJP president, Shibun Lyngdoh, who is camping in Delhi for the National Executive Committee meeting, said on Friday only the central leadership can take a final call on the pre-poll alliance ahead of 2018 Assembly polls.
Speaking to The Shillong Times over phone from Delhi, Lyngdoh said the meeting in Delhi did not discuss anything specific to northeastern states on Friday as it centered around the achievements of the Union government.
“Some discussions on the Northeast may be held on Saturday,” he added.
He, however, said issues related to the pre-poll alliance will be dealt by the central leaders and the matter will be discussed in due course of time.
“Since election has been declared in five states, the BJP will make a strategy for Meghalaya and other states, which will go to the polls in 2018, only after this year’s elections.”
Referring to the statement of NPP leader Conrad Sangma, who pointed out the varied hurdles before arriving at any pre-poll alliance, Lyngdoh said the party is yet to make any strategy regarding the pre-poll alliance.
He said after the setback to the party in the by-election to the seven district council seats, a postmortem of the result was carried out and the party passed a resolution that there is a need to do more works to strengthen the party.
Lyngdoh said after his return from Delhi, he will take several steps to strengthen the party.
The BJP leader said during his stay in Delhi, he would try to meet Union Ministers dealing with the departments of DoNER, Power, Defence and Agriculture to discuss the issues concerning the State.
