SHILLONG: Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh and his family, which runs Marvelene’s Inn at Rilbong, may land up in trouble as an FIR under POCSO Act was registered against them.
TUR and CSWO have filed an FIR at Laban police station “against the proprietor/owner(s)/management of Marvelene’s Inn, Rilbong, under POCSO Sec 21 (1), which holds liable persons for failure to report the commission of an offence or apprehension that an act is likely to be committed under POCSO”.
The FIR also urged police to register a case under Section 370 of the IPC
as amended by the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013, which holds liable persons who for the purpose of exploitation, harbours and receives a person or persons.
According to TUR and CSWO, a minor was twice “received” and “harboured” at Marvelene’s Inn where she was sexually assaulted and raped.
The pressure groups also urged all concerned individuals – Dorbars, Seng Kynthei, Seng Samla, the child rights and women’s commissions and other organisations – to join the rally on January 11 at 11am from Fire Brigade Ground to Additional Secretariat Parking lot in protest against the recent crimes against women and children and to press the demand for the Home Minister’s resignation.
In addition, other demands include ensuring independent and speedy investigation, closure of the guest houses involved in the trafficking case and guest houses adhering to guidelines to prevent recurrence of such crimes, among others.
