SHILLONG: Illegal coal transportation was reported from Jaintia Hills with transporters carrying coal beyond the prescribed limit for ferrying to Bangladesh through Sohkha weighbridge.Sources said the transporters have been engaging in coal transportation beyond the prescribed limit of 9 metric tonnes.According to sources, the trucks are loading over 20 metric tonnes of coal covered with tarpaulins.
Questions have been raised as to why the Customs and the personnel from the Department of Mineral Resources have to remain mere spectators instead of preventing loading of coal beyond the prescribed limit.
