SHILLONG: A sub-committee comprising officials of the Assembly Secretariat and related government departments, including PWD, will examine on Tuesday the applications of 13 firms which are participating in the tender to provide design for the new Assembly.
Construction of the new Assembly was delayed for 16 years after the old heritage building made of Burmese teak was gutted by fire on January 9, 2001.
Even after the lapse of several years, the plan to construct the new Assembly is at an early stage.
Assembly Speaker A.T Mondal told reporters on Monday that out of the 13 firms, two, including a foreign unit, will be disqualified as they do not fulfil the required criteria.
After scrutiny and grading of marks, only one firm will be selected for providing design for the new Assembly building, he added.
