SHILLONG: The State BJP has demanded that fast track courts be set up immediately for speedy trials and conviction in the wake of the recent spurt in crime against women and children. BJP leader Gagan Jain said these courts should have been set up three years ago in the aftermath of the Nirbhaya incident in Delhi but the complacency of the State Government is an indicator of its indifferent attitude towards safety of women and minors. “Had these fast track courts been operational, some convictions would have definitely taken place under the already stringent laws like the POCSO deterring the animal instincts of the evil minds who have recently been indulging in such dastardly acts, thus preventing at least some of them,” he said.
Jain also said if the State Government fails to act in setting up fast track courts and also removal of H.D.R Lyngdoh from the cabinet, “the BJP would take this apathy to the people”.
