Criticises KHADC for delaying headmen appointment

SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) on Friday denied media reports that it was contemplating toppling the present executive committee led by P.N Syiem in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.
UDP president Donkupar Roy on Friday told The Shillong Times that there is no such move to dislodge the present KHADC executive committee.
“Everything in the party is decided by the core committee and I am the chairman of the committee and there is no such move,” he said and added that Syiem is the captain of the Council as he stood his ground while others were resigning following the dual posts act.
However, Roy said the KHADC has failed to appoint full-time Syiems and sordars and several villages have only acting headmen, which is wrong and a major failure of the KHADC.
“The KHADC should prepare for election before the term of traditional bodies expires,” he said and added that in many villages, election of traditional bodies has been delayed.
Meanwhile, P.N Syiem said on Friday there was no threat to his executive committee and the reported UDP move was “mere speculations”. But he added that there may be one or two MDCs who were contemplating withdrawing their support to the present PDF coalition.
