SHILLONG: Information Technology and Communications Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said on Friday the department has conducted a detailed study based on which several training programmes were conducted for youths in information technology skills.
Speaking at the IT awards for meritorious students here on Friday, Lyngdoh said there are no shortcuts in life even as she added that students have to be dedicated, disciplined and focused if they want to be successful in life.
“Education is a capital investment and has proven to be a permanent asset in our lives,” she said.
The IT Minister handed over as many as 178 laptops to meritorious students who excelled in Class X and Class XII examinations of MBoSE, ICSE, ISC and Class XII examination of the CBSE at Yojana Bhavan here on Friday.
Earlier, Commissioner and Secretary of IT, D.P Wahlang, said the IT awards were initiated in Meghalaya in 2007 and till date, more than 1,000 meritorious students have been given laptops.
While urging students to use the laptops in their further studies, Wahlang informed that the department has set up a study centre and students can use the facility for their online studies and assistance.
“We hope that the facility will be in place by March this year,” he said and added that though the department already has the infrastructure for the study centre, the main challenge is content as it is very expensive.
However, the department is in consultation with the best firms in the IT sector, like Akash and Tatas, to provide the content for the study centre that will then be offered free of cost.
While expressing happiness over the increasing number of students receiving the award from far away and rural areas, DP Wahlang also informed that the State Government will be awarding class X toppers of CBSE from next year since the CBSE will have a class X board examination from this year.
