SHILLONG: The Election Commission has awarded Meghalaya for innovative programmes and effective partnership embarked by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer and Shillong Public School.
The award recognises the effective collaborative efforts of the Election Department and the school in undertaking a series of youth-oriented programmes under SVEEP, particularly the “point to the future” campaigns through visiting campus and social media which contributed to a 3.38% rise in enrolment as reflected in the final electoral rolls.
When contacted, CEO F.R Kharkongor expressed his gratitude to the Election Commission for the recognition. He also complimented the entire team of the Election Department, the CEO’s office and Shillong Public School and called it a “team effort”.
In the context of the EC’s current focus on empowering young voters, Kharkongor said, “The award will further encourage the Election Department to work in greater tandem under SVEEP, with active schools like Shillong Public School to ensure that all 18-19-year olds are enrolled as this is a pre-election year.”
A. Warjri, Principal of Shillong Public School, received the National Award from President Pranab Mukherjee.
