SHILLONG: A jubilant KHADC chief P.N Syiem on Monday said the final verdict of the Supreme Court regarding the dual posts has exposed the folly of the State Government in hurriedly bringing the dual posts Act restricting MLAs from holding the post of MDCs.
He also appreciated the move of CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing in filing the petition in the Supreme Court with an intention to get a clarity on the order passed by the High Court of Meghalaya.
“It is definitely a setback for the State Government as certain reservations I expressed during the discussion on the dual posts Bill hurriedly brought by Government in the Assembly was not taken into account resulting in the present situation,” he said.  The dual posts Act had resulted in seven MLAs resigning from the post of MDCs which led to the by-elections to the vacant posts at the cost of over Rs 2 crore. Syiem, however, continued to hold the post of MDC realising that there was no dual posts issue in MLAs functioning as MDCs.
