SHILLONG: The BJYM has slammed Chief Minister Mukul Sangma for politicising the SSA teachers’ issue by adopting “divide and rule policy” for running Government affairs.
In a statement issued here, BJYM president Egenstar Kurkalang said, “The move of the MUA-II Government is clear. The Education Department has adopted a divisive policy by differentiating between trained and untrained SSA teachers.”
Kurkalang said as per the HRD Ministry norm, no such differences should arise. The Centre provides salary of Rs 19,044 to lower primary and Rs 20,493 to upper primary teachers.
The BJYM president stated that the State Government did not comply with the circulation order of the Ministry through the Project Approval Board.
“Instead, the State adopted its own policy of corrupt practices by making differences among teachers based on the training which the government partially provided to a section of them while the majority of them to whom the State Government did not provide training their salary is going to be reduced or deducted from Rs 19,044 to Rs 13,335 for L.P teachers while for U.P teachers, it was reduced from Rs 20,493 to Rs 14,392. The government did not provide training to all SSA teachers because of its corrupt tactic,” he added.
Kurkalang alleged that the main purpose of the State Government in adopting this strange policy is to divert the fund.
Stating that the Government should come clear on what it would do with the deducted amount.
“We will not allow this habit of the Congress Government to misuse and divert the central fund and central scheme. We demand from the State Government to stop immediately this unfair and corrupt practice,” Kurkalang said.
He added that the SSA scheme and project including teachers’ salary, books and uniform meant for students and also other facilities should be utilised accordingly in time.
The BJYM will approach the concern ministry if the government continue this corrupt practice.
