TURA: An FIR has been filed against one Shahjahan Miah at Mahendraganj police station in South West Garo Hills for faking the names of signatories in a complaint submitted to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) against the village ‘Gaonbura’ leading to the latter’s dismissal.
Ziarul Islam, Gaonbura of Kamarpara, Bahadurkatta and Kukurmua-II under Mahendraganj, was recently removed from his post by the GHADC after Miah submitted a false complaint by faking the signatures of as many as 21 persons, some of whom were not even from the area while some others were minors, or are residing in neighbouring villages of Assam after marriage.
The complaint allegedly by the people of the area had demanded that Ziarul Islam be replaced by Shahjahan Miah. The signatory also included names of people with no voter ID cards as well as those of illiterate persons in clear handwriting raising questions about their authenticity.
Angry residents of villages falling under the jurisdiction of the Gaonbura, along with those whose signatures were forged, have now filed an FIR demanding action against the guilty.
