SHILLONG: In what can be termed as good news for the residents of Mawlai, the newly created Mawlai C&RD block is likely to be inaugurated in April this year.
Mawlai MLA Embhahlang Syiemlieh, who led a delegation of the Mawlai Town Dorbar (MTD) to a meeting with Minister in-charge C&RD Sniawbhalang Dhar on Monday said the latter has assured that the Mawlai Community and Rural Development will be made functional by April after finalisation of the land for construction of its office. Mawlai, which came under the jurisdiction of Mylliem C&RD Block, is one of the four new C&RD blocks announced by the State government last year.
While asking the State Government to expedite the process of inaugurating the C&RD block, the UDP legislator maintained that the block office should be located within Mawlai area.
“We have also suggested the need to form a committee comprising of the department official, MTD functionaries and the MLA to discuss the requirements of the block,” Syiemlieh said.
He also said that two lands including the forest area opposite FCI office, have been identified for the purpose.
