SHILLONG: A youth was arrested for raping and murdering a 40 year old woman whose body was recovered from an abandoned coal mine recently in East Jaintia Hills.
Police arrested the accused identified as Jaitri Phawa (21) from his house at Jalyiah area on Monday.
After committing the crime, the accused was on the run for the last one week . He has been remanded to police custody for six days.
It was on February 4
that the body of the 40-year-old woman, who went missing for three days, was found in the abandoned mine at Khloo Sait Pathi.
The woman, who was the mother of two, had gone to collect firewood from a nearby jungle and did not return.
