SHILLONG/TURA: West Garo Hills Police have found evidence that shows people with vested interests led the arson attack on a higher secondary school at Bholarbitha in Chibinang in the district on February 10.
Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi said investigation is still on and some more revelations are likely to be made in due course of time. “It seems to be the handiwork of some people with vested interests,” he added.
Unidentified persons set on fire Janapriya Higher Secondary School at Bholarbitha in Chibinang late on the night of February 10. The fire destroyed three rooms, including one that housed the accounts wing and a room for Class X students.
Students, especially those who will appear for the Class X board examination, have been affected by the incident. An FIR has been lodged at Phulbari police station.
Condemning the incident, the School Managing Committee (SMC), which met on February 11, has sought strong action against the miscreants.
The SMC members will also meet the DC to submit details of the incident along with copies to related departments and officials for necessary action.
