NONGPOH: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Jirang Circle, has urged the Government to install a check point on the road that connects Jirang and Assam to control illegal immigrants from entering the State.
The demand for a check point is besides the setting up of entry and exit points in Ri Bhoi.
A. Lyngdoh, president of the HNYF Jirang Circle, said the Jirang-Ranibari road is one of the main roads in the western border area of Ri Bhoi and this connects with Mairang and other parts of the State.
“This road has become a safe passage for illegal immigrants. It is high time that the Government take serious note of this because the illegal migrants nowadays use internal roads to enter the State,” Lyngdoh said.
Moreover, the organisation had also urged the pro-ILP groups in the State to kindly support the issue and put pressure on the Government for a check point.
