TNT Sputnik storm into Super Division final
SHILLONG: TNT Sputnik defeated Langsning by 49 runs in the Shillong Cricket League Super Division match played at cricket ground, Polo on Wednesday. Electing to bat first Sputnik scored 176 losing all their wickets in 39.3 overs in which Tarique Siddique scored 84 runs off 103 balls and Sanjay Biswa scored 33 runs off 67 balls. At one stage sputnik was reduced to 17 runs losing five wickets in 12 overs. However, a brilliant 97 runs partnership between Tarique and Sanjay helped the defending champions to post a challenging total. For Langsning, Rajib displayed a brilliant spell of fast bowling in which he took seven wickets for 25 runs in eight overs. Langsning batsman could not stand up to some brillinat allround bowling from Sputnik and were all-out for 127 runs in 34.3 overs. Lachu Chettri scored 63 runs off 81 balls. For Sputnik, Swarajit Das and Aditya Singhania took four and three wickets respectively. With this result Sputnik stormed into the final of the super league for the third time in last four years.
India drub Singapore 4-1 in Asian mixed badminton
HO CHI MINH (VIETNAM): India rallied to start their campaign on a winning note in the ROBOT Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships 2017, embarrassing Singapore 4-1, here on Wednesday. Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy lost to Yong Kai Terry Hee and Wei Han Tan 21-23 17-21 in the mixed doubles event. But Sameer Verma beat Kean Yew Loh 21-9 21-16 in men’s singles to bring India back into the contest. India consolidated their position as the duo of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy defeated Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Hendra Wijaya 21-12 21-17 in men’s doubles. Rituparna Das easily got the better of Xiaoyu Liang 23-21 21-18 in women’s singles, before the pairing of Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy, after being a set down, prevailed over Ren-Ne Ong and Jia Ying Crystal Wong 19- 21 21-17 21-17 as India recorded a comfortable win. Dabang Mumbai advance to HIL semis after close win
NEW DELHI: Dabang Mumbai rode on skipper Florian Fuchs’ last-minute field goal to eke out a close 3-2 win over Delhi Waveriders and seal their place in the semifinals of the fifth edition of Hockey India League at the Shivaji Stadium here on Wednesday. German Fuchs (60th minute) struck from a field effort just at the stroke of regulation time to continue Dabang Mumbai’s impressive run in the tournament. Earlier, Australian Kieran Govers gave Dabang Mumbai the lead by converting their first penalty corner in the 24th minute before forward Mandeep Singh scored from a field strike in the 44th minute. By virtue of this win, Dabang Mumbai have consolidated their position at the top of the standings with 33 points from nine games, while the Waveriders are languishing at the lower half of the table with 17 points from seven matches. Man City’s Jesus may be out for rest of season with foot injury
LONDON: Manchester City confirmed the injury that Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus sustained during the English Premier League (EPL) football game against Bournemouth. The 19-year-old suffered a fractured metatarsal and could be out of action for three months, reports Efe. “Manchester City can confirm Gabriel Jesus suffered a fractured metatarsal during the 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Monday night,” the English club said in a statement on Tuesday. Jesus, who moved from Palmeiras to Manchester City during the winter transfer market, had to leave the field 15 minutes into the game. He was photographed on Tuesday on the streets of Manchester walking with crutches and a protective boot on his right foot. (IANS)
