SHILLONG: The Central Reserve Police Force will divert its personnel from other areas to Garo Hills if the state government demanded, said CRPF director general K. Durga Prasad on Tuesday.
Prasad, while praising CRPF’s Combat Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) unit that is working with the State police in Garo Hills, said, “If there is a greater demand, we may think of diversion of personnel from other areas.”
CoBRA commandos are assisting Meghalaya police in flushing out militants from Garo Hills. Addressing the media after laying the foundation stone for the administrative block here on Tuesday, the CRPF DG said the elite unit was in demand in all states.
On law and order in the North East, Prasad said, “It has been good so far other than some small issues.”
Reacting to a query about women representation in the force, Prasad said CRPF has raised six battalions for woman, besides each of the 10 units of Rapid Action Force (RAF) has a women’s platoon.
“We have the largest number of women among all the central armed police forces,” he said.
