SHILLONG: South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai, who had threatened to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the PHE department and the Shillong Municipal Board over the problem of water crisis in the constituency, has decided to keep the move at bay for now following assurance that the concerned authorities were working to resolve the problem.
In fact, a meeting was held at Laban attended by officials of the PHE, SMB, NGOs, and local residents to deliberate on the matter.
The meeting observed that though the problem of water scarcity was slowly becoming normal, some other issues required attention to ensure that there is no repeat of the menace.
It was further decided that the ‘key men’ appointed for distribution of water within entire Greater Laban area should be transferred regularly besides the PHE and SMB should work in cordial relationship to solve and improve the procurement and distribution of water. It was also decided that a monitoring committee would be formed to keep track of the water supply.
Accordingly, on Tuesday the “19th South Shillong Constituency Public Grievances Monitoring Committee on Water Supply under Municipality Area” was formed.
While Sanbor Shullai is the chairman of the committee, local MDC Ricky Shullai is the vice chairman. A. Marwein is the member secretary while there are as many as 13 members.
