Umsning market to be shifted

SHILLONG: The Umsning market will be shifted to Umsning Patarim, which is adjacent to the by-pass road in Ri-Bhoi, following complaints from sellers about the present market being congested and dirty.
The new location is spread over four acres making it twice as big as the current market and belongs to the Umsning Town Dorbar.
The decision to shift the market was taken after locals approached Umsning MDC (UDP) Donkupar Sumer expressing the problems faced by buyers and sellers alike in the current market.
Speaking to media persons, Sumer said, “An allocation of Rs 2.05 crore will be made from the Special Assistance Scheme for construction of the new market.”
The MDC informed that the new market will parking and toilet facility among others. Chairman of Umsning Town Dorbar Ripul R. Ryntathiang said that they will wait for the decision of the Hima Mylliem for a week following which an agreement will be signed with the KHADC.
