Nongkhnum festival in West Khasi Hills concludes

NONGSTOIN: A Shillong boy became the winner of the off-road competition at the annual Nongkhnum Festival in West Khasi Hills. Ralph L. Nongpiur’s driving skills in the off-road 4×4 competition earned accolades at the festival, which concluded on February 24. Thousands of people from across the country as well as abroad flocked to the second largest river island in Asia.
There were events like auto cross, off road, beach football, baby show, horse-racing competition, displayed of accessories design by Intrique, fashion show bamboo climbing, archery, landscape designing, beach football and cultural items, among many others. The beach football event was won by the Seng Samla Diliengngiem of Nongstoin. The auto-cross and off -road drew a lot of attention at the festival.
In the off road competition Azad Mukhim was the first runner-up while Chiborlang Wahlang of Jowai was the second runner-up, while in auto cross Ban Suting was adjusted the first runner-up and Babil Lyngdoh was in the second runner-up. Brandon of Nongstoin was the winner of auto cross event.
The two-day fest was organised by the Apple Society and District Arts and Culture Society. Stalls selling indigenous food and locally made wine were put up.
The festival ended with a rock show by local bands.
