Cop escapes attempt on life

JOWAI: An on-duty Police officer escaped with his life after being attacked by the family of an accused at Barato village in West Jaintia Hills District.
Sources informed that a police team led by Sub-Inspector L. Kharsyntiew from Ladrymbai police outpost had gone to Barato village on Monday to arrest Jarsniaw Dkhar Tyngkan in connection with a case registered at Khliehriat police station. When the police team reached the village around 5:30 pm, they were attacked by Thol Dkhar Tyngkan, Iol Dkhar Tyngkan and Bahlut Dkhar Tyngkan, all relatives of the accused. The attackers took out a knife and attacked the police officer who managed to escape.
The police, however, snatched the knife from the attackers.
Kharsyntiew later lodged a complaint with Nartiang Police in this connection. The accused and the attackers are yet to be arrested.
