Mawrong set to host Ri Bhoi Synod meeting

NONGPOH: Mawrong village in Ri Bhoi district, around 16 km from Umsning, will host the Ri Bhoi Synod meeting slated to be held from March 16-19.
The decision was taken at a public meeting convened on Tuesday to discuss strategies to renovate Mawrong-Umsning road, metalling and black topping of 700 m internal road, water supply, solar light and other developmental issues. Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya DD Lapang and PWD Minister MM Danggo attended the meeting.
The meeting urged Lapang and Danggo to look into various needs and requirements of the village correlated with the preparations for the upcoming Ri Bhoi Synod meeting. Danggo assured to complete the road work before the commencement of the Synod meeting.
Lapang said that the PWD, PHE and other departments will do their bid to provide necessary arrangements like water supply, solar light etc., to make the Synod meeting a grand success.

Prez help sought to stop attacks on BJP-RSS workers
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Citizens Forum for Human Rights has petitioned President Pranab Mukherjee urging him to take action to stop political attacks by CPM activists on BJP-RSS workers in Kannur district of Kerala.
The forum along with the Meghalaya Conscious Citizens Forum also held a sit-in demonstration and a public meeting in the city to condemn the attacks on BJP-RSS workers in Kerala. The forum pointed out that over 250 BJP-RSS workers have been killed in the state over the years including eight workers killed last year.
The memorandum was forwarded to the president through the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner.

Dancers’ protest
SHILLONG: The All Meghalaya Dancer’s Association (AMDA) will hold a sit-in demonstration at the parking lot of Additional Secretariat from noon to 4 pm to draw the government’s attention to the issues faced by artistes in the State.
In a statement to the press, Denny Rynjah, organising secretary of AMDA said that the association had submitted a memorandum to the chief minister and other MLAs citing its aims and intentions to promote talent in the State. The association has demanded the setting up of a dancing institution in the State and proposed the need to set up a government body to sponsor artistes.

Resident doctors’ panel formed
SHILLONG: With an aim to ensure the welfare of resident doctors, the NEIGRIHMS Resident Doctors Association (NRDA) was formed recently.
“The primary purpose of the association is to ensure the welfare of resident doctors of NEIGRIHMS and to form a common interaction ground for them,” NRDA president Dr Tony Ete said.
The  members of the newly formed association include president Dr Tony Ete, vice president Dr Sandeep Ghosh, general secretary Dr Kalyan Sarma among others.

‘INDIA Model’ proposed for students’ growth

Nongpoh: Renowned management guru and international scholar Prof. Subhash Sharma has suggested the ‘INDIA Model’ for the growth and development of students and their institutions.
“INDIA Model has three ideas wherein ‘IN’ means innovation, ‘D’ means development, ‘IA’ means international aspiration. When students and faculties combine these three factors in their thought process success is ensured,” Prof. Sharma said while giving a special talk on ‘Inspirational Motivation’ at the Mahatma Gandhi University, Byrnihat on Wednesday.
In his talk, Prof. Sharma also gave his popular and inspirational ‘step-by-step model of success and leadership,’ which motivates students to aspire for higher causes in career and life and thereby making contribution to the society, nation and the body.
The university announced the launch of Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Indian Management, which would be functional from July 2017.
At the end of the programme, Prof. Sharma was conferred with the Mahatma Gandhi University Achievement Award.

Man held for murder attempt
SHILLONG: One person has been arrested in East Garo Hills for allegedly attempting to murder a girl in his neighbourhood.
Paresh N. Marak of Tongrimgittim village lodged a complaint that around 5.30 pm on February 23, the accused, Rashid R. Marak dragged his daughter to some place when she raised an alarm. Then Paresh and his wife went to rescue her but by then Rashid had fled.
Later, while he and his wife were going to Rashid’s father, Hen Sangma, to complain, on the way the accused assaulted the duo and injured them.
Rashid later destroyed their house and attempted to murder his daughter.

BSF seizes Phensedyl on border
SHILLONG: A joint operation of BSF troopers and Baghmara Police at Zero Line on the Indo-Bangla border led to the seizure of 300 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup.
The consignment was hidden in an abandoned hut at Asimchiring village and was awaiting transportation to Bangladesh.
The seized items were handed over to the concerned department for further disposal.
