SHILLONG: Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress led by its president Richard M. Marak protested against LPG price hike by the BJP-led NDA government at Rongjeng in East Garo Hills on Saturday.
“First PM (Narendra) Modi asks you to give up LPG cylinders. Then his failure to control prices forces you back to subsidies and on March 1 the state-owned oil companies raised the price of non-subsidised LPG by Rs 86 per cylinder. We demand immediate rollback of the price. It is a big blow to the middle class households,” Marak said.
Modi promised to control price rise before elections (the 2014 Lok Sabha elections) but failed, said the Youth Congress president and added, “The BJP will say anything during election campaigns. Why do BJP leaders always lie? Why can’t they ever be honest? People aren’t fools,” he added. Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Zenith M. Sangma, Taxation Minister Winnerson D. Sangma and Chief Whip Sengnam M. Marak were also present.
MPCC against demonetisation
On the same day, the MPCC organised a Jan Vedna Panchayat at Rongjeng as part of the ongoing nationwide campaign of the Congress to address the hardships due to demonetisation and also to highlight the anti-poor and anti-public decisions of the BJP government.
